cloud of words related to celebration of Thanksgiving Day on a slate blackboard surrounded by pumpkins

As we know, Thanksgiving Day in America is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.  Historically, one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the U.S. was thought to be held in 1621 when the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast.  Thereafter, for more than two centuries, Thanksgiving feasts were celebrated by individual colonies and states which were prompted by good harvests.  It wasn’t until 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.   Thanksgiving is a day traditionally spent with your family and friends, eating good food, watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the football game.

This Thanksgiving, while enjoying all of the greatness of the day, here are a few things to think about…

  • Try to live every day, not just during the holidays, with an Attitude of Gratitude – meaning there is so much to be thankful for, learn to appreciate all of the little things in life.
  • Share the wealth – Being wealthy doesn’t always refer to the amount of money you have in the bank. Share your ‘wealth’ by inviting people into your home, donating to a good cause, or volunteering your time. Remember, it doesn’t have to be a special time of the year to do this!
  • Appreciate your loved ones – try not to take people for granted. Take an extra moment to talk to your family members and actually listen to them this holiday season.
  • Contribute to others – Take the time to help other people, but try not to keep score. Helping others isn’t about yourself; it’s about being selfless and genuinely caring about the welfare of the people around you.
  • CELEBRATE LIFE – take care of yourself physically and mentally. Don’t waste time worry about what’s going wrong in your life. Live each day to the fullest and celebrate just being alive!
