Girls playing at the pool

With the summer heat in full force, most people will be heading to the pool to cool off!  Homeowners, Property Managers and Community Associations should take the time to double check their outdoor areas for potential safety hazards. Pool safety is everyone’s responsibility, the tenants, guests, property managers, etc.  Avoiding hazards now, can prevent costly General Liability claims later!

Pool Safety Tips to Consider:

  • Install at least a 4 foot fence or barrier around the water’s edge to keep small children and pets out of danger
  • Make sure to post pool safety signs and list the designated times when a lifeguard will be on duty
  • Never leave children unattended around pools – even though there are lifeguards, you should still physically be watching children whenever they are around a pool
  • Learn life-saving skills such as CPR
  • Avoid allowing excessive consumption of alcohol around pools
  • Always keep life-saving equipment such as life jackets and flotation devices available
