Have you heard of Instagram?  It is a fun new way to share pictures on the internet.  All you have to do is download the free app to your iPhone or Android phone, snap a picture, choose a filter to transform your picture into something amazing and then post it to your Instagram account.  You can then share your photos on other social media platforms by uploading them to Flickr, Facebook and Twitter.  Similar to Facebook and Twitter, if your privacy settings are set to ‘Public’, anyone can subscribe to follow your photos.  However, if you change your settings to the private option, you must approve all follow requests before that individual can view your pictures.  There is also a ‘camera roll’ feature which saves all of the pictures you’ve posted on your Instagram account to your phone so you can print out the pictures.  Just sync your phone to your computer and print as many as you would like!

The growing popularity of social media is forcing businesses to jump on the content-sharing bandwagon or get left in the dust.  This app is becoming wildly popular.  Small businesses may think that there is no way to benefit from social media marketing by using apps such as Instagram, but simply using the sites, shows that you are ahead of the game.  If you’re a bit lost at first as to how you should begin using Instagram, try taking a picture of a new product you are providing, but don’t use it to straight advertise with the pictures.  Get creative, post pictures of your office, or a fun team building event.  You can also use Instagram as a place to store pictures of client losses as well as using these pictures as a reference to show to new clients when trying to sell them a particular coverage.

Like Pinterest, Instagram has become a huge social media contender as a photo-based interface for social sharing.  It’s not a huge commitment for a business to start an Instagram account.  Just sign up, start posting pictures and see what results you can receive.
