Pinterest (founded in 2008), has been called one of the fastest growing social media platforms online today and the third-largest network behind Facebook and Twitter.  Pinterest is a social ‘bookmarking’ site that allows users to collect and share photos of their favorite interests, DIY crafts, hobbies, recipes, websites, etc.  It allows you to organize and share ideas by “pinning” pictures of things you find on the internet on different ‘pinboards’ that you create.  People have many different ‘pinboards’ for different categories such as Style, Home Décor, Wedding Planning, Recipes, Inspiration, etc.  You can view pins by category and can even comment on pins you like.   When you see something that interests you, just click the ‘Pin it’ button and it is instantly added to the pinboard of your choice!  When you log back in to your account, it’s there waiting for you without the hassle of trying to search for the website you originally saw it on!

  

I recently heard a radio advertisement for a website called “Clipix”.  The way it was described sounded almost identical to Pinterest, so I figured I would check it out.  The website is described as a free way to organize our lives online, solving the problem of seeing something online and not having a way to save an organize it.  In my opinion, Clipix (which was founded in February, 2012) has almost the same exact concept as Pinterest.  While there are many reasons why Clipix is not as popular as Pinterest yet, one feature they have added is the ‘Price Drop Alert’ which allows you to set up an alert when ‘clipping’ an item that’ll send you an email when the product has hit your target price.  This is a great feature that Pinterest has not developed yet.  Unlike Pinterest, Clipix is not a ‘social network’.  The Clipix site’s sole purpose is to offer users a place to organize their online life rather than sharing all of their ‘clippings’ with other users.  Another great feature they’ve  created is the ‘Security’ feature that allows you to pick and choose who can view your ‘clipboards’ (also a feature that is not available on Pinterest).  This is still a fairly new site, with some time and development it can grow to be a strong competitor to Pinterest.
