LinkedIn operates as the world’s largest professional network on the internet with more than 100 million members in over 200 countries and territories according to their press materials.  Like Facebook and Twitter, LinkedIn is a great tool for Insurance Professionals to connect with new or existing clients, colleagues and re-connect with old classmates!  Keep in mind, LinkedIn is used as more of a professional social networking tool than a way to keep in touch with friends and family.  Often time’s people sign up for LinkedIn and their profiles go dormant due to the fact that they simply do not know what to do next.  A great way that you as an Insurance Professional can use LinkedIn to your advantage is to join industry specific “Groups”.    Joining these groups will help develop your own professional social network.  LinkedIn is full of industry experts and with the ‘Answers’ tool it allows you to ask industry Specific questions to get the advice or answers you need!   Groups such as Insurance Professionals invite producers, underwriters, risk managers and others to discuss pricing, coverage questions, network security, customer service & other topics.  You can also find subgroups for Property & Casualty and Life and Health to cover more specific lines of business.  You may also want to join groups that discuss the industry that you specialize in.  If you’re agency specializes in hotels, joining a hotel discussion group will give you exposure to connections in that industry!

If you have not joined LinkedIn yet, you should seriously consider signing up and exploring the many tools provided to help grow your professional client base!
