A wise man once said, “A happy employee is a productive employee”.   Different companies use different mechanisms for keeping their employees happy & motivated. While raising wages will always make employees happy, there are different ways you can ensure their happiness. These things will also prove to be much less expensive than a company-wide wage increase!

  1. Flexible hours – different people have different things going on outside of work.  Being able to have flexible hours at work can relieve a lot of stress due to worrying about picking up sick children from school or making it to a doctor’s appointment.
  2. A Clean Working Environment – studies show a clean working environment is connected to higher productivity and better morale in the workplace.
  3. Company-Wide Competitions – Competition is a major key to productivity.  Try coming up with a great competition with rewards your employees will really want like a Friday afternoon off or a free lunch.  These competitions can be industry related or can involve things outside of the workplace such as fitness competitions.
  4. Coffee and Tea for Everyone – Often times many employees have felt that ‘2 O’clock feeling’.  Providing your employees with a good coffee machine (such as a Kuerig, which is easy to clean up and good for a single cup of coffee or tea) is a great way to give them that little extra caffeine boost they may need in the afternoon to make it through their day and keep them smiling.
  5. Parties – Everyone loves to party.  To most people, their birthday is the most important day of their year, if you keep track and remember your employee’s birthdays they will greatly appreciate the gesture, even if it is just a small piece of cake and everyone saying the words “Happy Birthday”.  It’s a great way to keep your employees social and happy.

 

These are just a few techniques to keep your employees happy.  Businesses should always be concerned with how happy their employees are.  When your employees are happier, they work harder, promote your company more outside of work because they are proud to work for you, and are more social.  And remember, these are not quick fixes; they are long-term elements that will improve the over-all productivity of your company.
