American FlagOn December 7th, 1941, a surprise attack was launched on the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor.  The attack was composed of torpedo bombers, dive bombers, horizontal bombers and fighters.  These attacks killed 2,388 Navy, Marines and Army personnel as well as damaging many of the ships in the U.S. Pacific 7th Fleet.

The day after the attack, which was the first of its kind on American soil, Franklin D. Roosevelt spoke the following words; “Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked …”, these words would rally an outraged country.   As Congress declared war on December 11th, we fully joined World War II, which was already underway in Asia and Europe.

Saturday, December 7th, 2013 marks 72 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor.  Please remember to take a moment on Saturday to remember those who bravely fought in one of the most devastating days in our nation’s history.
