Why isn’t it 5 O’clock yet?! The sun is shining outside, it’s a beautiful day and all you can think about is how slow the time is going by. This is a feeling I’m sure ALL of us can relate to. For me, working a few blocks away from the beach is a huge distraction during the summer months especially when you walk outside to grab lunch and you see people walking down to the shoreline with their beach chairs and towels. It is easy to allow your workday production to fall to the wayside while you’re daydreaming of being outside and soaking up the sun.
Here are a few tips for keeping your productivity up during the summer months!
Crack a window or make it a point to get outside during lunch – Sometimes all you need is a fresh breeze or the smell of the outside to wake you up and help you re-focus. If you don’t have access to a window, make it a point to go out for lunch. Walk to a local deli or restaurant with outdoor seating rather than staying cooped up inside the office all day. This will give you the feeling of having a ‘real break’ from your office, even if it is only for an hour!
Don’t think just because you show up you are being productive – Clocking hours does not necessarily mean you’re getting things done. Have you ever noticed that if you procrastinate and slack off it makes the time go by even slower? If you engage yourself and focus on your work, chances are your day will go by faster than you think!
Really enjoy your time away from work – If you make the most of your time away from work it will be easier for you to focus while you’re there because you won’t feel like you’re missing out on anything! So, the next time you have off instead of sitting in front of the TV – Go out and do something you’ve been wanting to do.
Productivity doesn’t have to become a second priority during the summer. Keep these few tips in mind to help ensure your productivity during work!
