Golf has become an important part of building and maintaining business relationships. Knowing the game of golf can be a serious advantage in the professional world. Here is some information you may find interesting the next time you are playing or discussing golf.
The game of golf as we know it today originated in Scotland around the 12th century and the oldest set of Golf Clubs were discovered along with a newspaper dated 1741. While you are most likely know of familiar clubs such as Drivers, Putters, Wedges and Woods you may not know that originally players whittled their own clubs and golf balls out of wood. Here are some of the clubs that were used then:
- Longnose – used for driving
- Bulgers – has a bulbous head similar to the wood of today
- Fairway clubs – for medium range shooting
- Spoons – used in short range shots
- Niblicks – similar to the wedge we have today
- Cleek – used for putting.
Golf clubs have evolved from wooden shaft clubs to today’s sets of woods and irons. As the clubs have evolved they have become more durable, the weight distribution and graduation utility have become much more sophisticated.
