Are you a ‘Type A’ individual who is highly organized and always gives 110% to every project you do?  Do you constantly try to help others?   Maybe take on more than you can handle and are obsessed with managing your time efficiently?  You have probably been called a ‘Workaholic’ from time to time?  If this describes you, it isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but not taking a break to really relax and free your mind can potentially lead to a burnout at work.

Here are a few tips for beating your potential burnout…

  • I’ve said this numerous times in other blogs, but taking a break to eat lunch or go run personal errands can really help when you are on the verge of a burnout at work.  (And no, that doesn’t mean browsing Facebook or Pinterest)  Getting up and actually stepping away from the computer screen will help clear your mind and will most likely help with your productivity when you return to your desk.
  • Reward yourself for all of your hard work.  If you’re gearing up for a really hard week at work and it seems almost unbearable, pick out a trip or restaurant you’d like to go to (or maybe a new pair of shoes?) and tell yourself that if you make it through the week and get everything done that’s on your to-do list, you’ll reward yourself with that ‘treat’.
  • Vent It Out.  You may love every aspect of your job, but every once in a while, whether it’s a co-worker, boss, client or just a crazy deadline you have to meet, something is going to upset you or stress you out at work.  Rather than bottle it all up inside until you have a burnout, call a friend, talk to your significant other or a family member and just talk about what’s bothering you.  You will feel a lot better about the situation and they may even be able to give you good insight about your problem.

If you find yourself constantly tired, physically and/or emotionally or just really on edge, you may be on the verge of a burnout.  It’s OK to turn off your computer and just relax sometimes.  If your vacation isn’t scheduled for another two months, try these tips to help avoid a meltdown at work.
