Piggy bank with a CF bulb above (smart energy)

Sometimes, small acts can mean big savings – at least when it comes to energy costs.

  • Suggest that your clients perform an ‘Energy Audit’ on their property to ensure they are not wasting any unnecessary money on heating and cooling.
  • Seal up Air Leaks. Suggest using caulk or weather stripping to seal any leaks from doors, windows, baseboards, wall or window mounted air conditioners, switch plates or electrical outlets.
  • Install storm doors and windows.
  • Purchase Energy Star labeled windows and doors.
  • Ensure ceilings and walls are properly insulated.
  • Only run the dishwashers and washing machines when they are full.
  • Install programmable thermostats so the heat and AC are not running when no one is home.
  • Have your heating and cooling units inspected by qualified technicians each year.
  • Have the hot air ducts on your property inspected to ensure adequate air flow and eliminate any loss of heated air!
  • Replace filters on furnaces when needed.
  • Be sure to keep drapes or furniture away from any baseboards or radiators so heat can flow freely.
  • Remove window air conditioners during the cooler months so you do not lose any hot hair through the cracks.
  • Open the curtains on sunny days during the cooler months and close them at night to keep heat in.
  • Suggest blocking vents in unused rooms if your clients have central air.

These are just a few ways to reduce your carbon footprint and lower energy bills!
