The internet is an unavoidable part of everyone’s day to day life.  With this constant need to be connected all the time, comes an unavoidable threat of theft, fraud and abuse.  The scary truth is, these days everyone is at risk for a cyber-threat.  National Cyber Security Awareness Month is designed to engage and educate everyone on cyber security by raising awareness about the increasing risk of cyber-threats.

Cyber Security Month is broken down into 5 weeks this year, each week focusing on a different topic.

• Week One: Oct 1-3 focuses on Promoting Online Safety.
• Week Two: Oct 6-10 focuses on the Development of IT Products.  (I.e. building security into information technology products including phones, tablets and computers which we use every day.
• Week Three: Oct 13-17 focuses on Critical Infrastructure and the Internet of Things.
• Week Four: Oct 20-24 focuses on Cybersecurity for Small and Medium Sized Businesses and Entrepreneurs.
• Week Five: Oct 27-31 focuses on Cyber Crime and Law Enforcement.

Keep in mind; even if you’re not using the internet, doing something as simple as buying something at the store with your credit card puts you at risk for a cyber-breach.  Within the last year large corporations such as LinkedIn, Home Depot and Target all dealt with large-scale cyber-breaches.
